Welcome to my blog on sewing machine stitchery. I have produced 3 tutorials that show you some simple but fun ways to use your sewing machine.

Crazy Patches is a variation on the crazy patchwork theme that has been handed down through the generations.

Mosaic is a modern version of crazy patchwork, using tiny pieces of fabric.

Reverse Applique is a variation on the theme of Reverse Appliqué. You may be familiar with the colourful reverse appliqués worked by Cuna Indian women.

Please read the introduction and before starting sections first.

Introduction

The aim of these sewing machine stitchery tutorial notes is to encourage those who have sewing machines that have become dust collectors to experience simple but fun ways to use their sewing machine. The notes can be adapted to use with any sewing machine that has zig-zag or straight stitch capability. You can then develop your own machine stitchery style and use it for your projects. You will then be able to say with confidence “I can do this with my sewing machine”.

My life’s exploring with the sewing machine began in primary school. From that time on I have found many uses for a sewing machine. Through high school, technical college and various workshops, I have studied dressmaking, pattern making, embroidery, knit stretch wear, and millinery. I invite you to join me on my journey exploring with sewing machine stitches and fabric scraps of various colours and textures.

These notes are intended for your personal use. I hope that you are encouraged to explore and to have fun with machine stitchery.

Thank you to the many, many, people who have inspired me over the years in my exploring of sewing machine stitchery.
