Welcome to my blog on sewing machine stitchery. I have produced 3 tutorials that show you some simple but fun ways to use your sewing machine.

Crazy Patches is a variation on the crazy patchwork theme that has been handed down through the generations.

Mosaic is a modern version of crazy patchwork, using tiny pieces of fabric.

Reverse Applique is a variation on the theme of Reverse Appliqué. You may be familiar with the colourful reverse appliqués worked by Cuna Indian women.

Please read the introduction and before starting sections first.

COAT HANGER - EMBROIDERED DUST JACKET

The  mosaic technique used here is described in detail in the Mosaic Tutorial.  Some of the stitches are not illustrated in the tutorial.  I encourage you to explore with your sewing machine stitches.

The Suffolk puff flowers were made from circles of lightweight cotton fabric.  Use a hand sewing needle to run a row of small stitches around the raw edge.  Pull up tight, and fasten off.  The diameter of the circle used for these flowers is 10 cms.

The approximate height of the embroidered dust  jacket is 25 cms.  The approximate width is 52.5 cms.

I used the pattern provided with Jane Grove's article "For my lady's  closet".  This  article was published  in an Australian magazine, "Innovative Machine Embroidery & Textile Art", Vol.18  No.5. It would not be a difficult task to draft your own pattern though.
